The Capital and Infrastructure Department works to provide adequate and safe housing for TTC Citizens and Staff by providing rental units, encouraging home ownership and facilitating renovations when appropriate.
The Capital and Infrastructure Department assists TTC Citizens find healthy, safe and affordable housing through the upgrading and building of homes.
Upgrading of existing housing
The Capital and Infrastructure Department coordinates renovation services for Citizens who own homes on Traditional Territory. For information on applying for funding through the Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation, visit our Renovations service page.
With the financial assistance of the Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation, the Capital and Infrastructure Department aims to build a minimum of two new rental units each fiscal year. This federal program has been instrumental in helping the Department provide safe and adequate housing for TTC Citizens.
Home Construction Grant
The approval of the 2012/13 TTC Budget includes four home construction grants for TTC Citizens who wish to build on Settlement Land. These grants are available through an application process and are based on set out eligibility criteria as defined in the Home Construction Grant policy. The Capital and Infrastructure Department currently manages approximately 40 rental units in Teslin. All TTC Citizens over the age of 19 are eligible to apply for rental housing. For information on applying, visit our Rentals service page.
The Capital and Infrastructure Department encourages Citizens to accept the responsibility of home ownership through a variety of incentives. More information will be provided as this is developed.
There is a concerted effort to revise, update and amalgamate the five policies related to housing and construction. Citizen consultation and input through surveys has ensured that TTC Citizens are fully involved in the process. The Housing Policy Working Group is planning on presenting a recommended policy before the end of the 2012-13 fiscal year.
